TECDUR Glass Protection Ballistic utilises a clear resin that is poured between an outer and inner surface of glass polycarbonate. The thickness of the glass, resin /polycarbonate and the means of attachment determines the performance level of the protection.

Weight
Tecdur Glass Protection Blast has a hidden strength which allows it to absorb much of the blast loading. It utilises a unique and patented attachment system that holds the window in the frame and absorbs much of the impact of the blast.

Clarity
At the higher level of protection typical glass or glass/polycarbonate laminates lose clarity and exhibit a green tinge which often makes armoured cars distinctive. Tecdur glass has a light transmittance of 85% to 90% whereas similar protection with a glass/glass laminate would typically be as low as 60%.

Level of spall
Tecdur glass forms a chemical bond with the glass, either normal or toughened. When a traditional laminated blast window is subjected to a level of blast, which causes the glass to deflect and break, there is a significant amount of spall. This does not occur with Tecdur and thus it is well suited to situations where large numbers of people or sensitive electronic systems are located.

Loading
The hidden strength of the system and the unique and patented means of attachment mean that a lighter frame can be used and that lower levels of loading are placed on the wall. In extreme cases Tecdur Glass Protection can be incorporated with Tecdur Wall Protection.

Specifications will be drawn up based on the nature of the threat and specific customer requirements such as size of window and the need for discrete or visible protection.

Various factors to consider in determining the level of protection.

  • Size and proximity of the blast.
  • Size of opening.

  • Methods of attaching the glass.

  • Strength of frame.

  • Strength of wall

Tecdur glass has a light transmittance of 85% to 90%
