Tecdur® Ballistic Protection Glass is best suited to applications where traditional glass/glass laminations or glass/polycarbonate laminations are not good enough. This might be due to weight, clarity, temperature range or the shape of the protection required.
Weight
Tecdur® Glass Protection Ballistic can be up to a third lighter than typical glass/glass laminations. For example, an armoured car requiring 4 sq m of BR6 glass could save the weight of two passengers by using Tecdur® rather than traditional glass laminations.
Clarity
At the higher level of protection typical glass or glass/polycarbonate laminates lose clarity and exhibit a green tinge which often makes armoured cars distinctive. Tecdur glass has a light transmittance of 85% to 90% whereas similar protection with a glass/glass laminate would typically be as low as 60%.
Extended Temperature Range
As the resin cures with minimal shrinkage and the resin and glass share similar coefficients of expansion, there is a reduced stress in the bond. In addition as a chemical bond is formed, rather than a weaker physical bond typical in other systems an extended temperature performance range is achieved. For example, at minus 17 degrees Celsius it continues to protect where most glass/polycarbonate systems would fail.
Complex shapes
Tecdur® solutions offer flexibility in design. The novel interlayer system allows manufacture of complex shapes e.g. 2D curved windscreens or vision domes.
